Howdy! I'm John, the person behind Malia Urnsdottir, Norn ranger and a recent recruit.
My gaming days go back to when Jerry Ford was president; I'm a lot closer to 50 than 40. I started as a tabletop wargamer, adding RPGs to the mix back in 1978. For many years, virtually all of my gaming was some form of tabletop games. I've actually got a counter with my name on it in a published game (the ASL module "Doomed Battalions"). The game room / library in my former garage has an ever-growing collection.
I started playing MMOs back in 2001 in Everquest 1 as a bard on the Morell-Thule server. In the years since I've at least tried out most of the major games, with some extensive time spent in WoW, EVE, LotRO and RIFT. I've been a guild officer, guild leader, raid leader, hard-core roleplayer, crafting wonk, and just about everything else except hard-core PvPer, except in games which are really all about PvP. (It's not that I don't like it, I just usually don't focus on it.) These days my play is much more casual than it used to be.
I still do a fair bit of face-to-face gaming. Both of my kids (ages 19 and 15) are gamers. My long-suffering and incredibly tolerant wife puts up with us.
My day job is fairly demanding, so for me gaming is a way to unwind, and sometimes to let the creative juices flow. I do get to travel a bit for work and have been lucky to go to some neat places on the company's dime.
I'm also a former US Army paratrooper & cavalry scout, from way back in the early 1980s.
To wrap up:
See you all in Tyria!

To wrap up:
- Firefly > Star Wars
- Star Trek TOS > TNG
- Han Shot First
- "Then Buffy staked Edward. THE END"
- New Galactica > Old Galactica
- Roger Zelazny's "The Chronicles of Amber" is the best fantasy written in America before "A Song of Ice & Fire".
See you all in Tyria!
