So as to not further derail Zooey's thread, I'll start my own. Zooey linked a great post on Hammer Guardians. Here it is again: forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-Hammer-and-Altruistic-Healing-gameplay/firstThanks Zooey. That's exactly the post that got me into hammers. ;D I was running mace/shield and was just bored. It didn't "feel" fun to me. Now I've discovered hammers with a big Charr...it's clobberin' time. I got a nice level 35 yellow off BLTC for 1.5 silver. Steal. And as Butch said, "Who doesn't like launching enemies!?" OK Hammerites, what's your swap set? I'm using sword/torch. I like the number 2 closer skill and the number 3 skill. Then I switch to my big baby. What do you use and why?

I call the Hammer #2 skill "The Bunny Smasher"....
I can't think of a single more satisfying way to kill a critter in GW2 than with the Guardian Hammer.
That being said, that thread is a pretty interesting read. I'm going to have to look and see how well Altruistic Healing can be applied to other Guardian Weapons.
As for as good off-sets, I'd definitely recommend having some ranged potential. I know the Hammer and Staff share a few traits.

ROFL "Bunny Smasher" I do find myself crushing white mobs with #2 a lot.

lol I like switching to scepter/torch or scepter shield in PvP. Scepter for immobilizing and shield has a nice, "what are YOU doing on MY cliff! GET OFF!" interrupt Scepter/torch could be a good swap in PvE; however, I think the staff has longer range so for ranged situations, I swap to the staff in PvE. I always swap to Mace/Focus from Hammer/GS when I'm supporting in PvE. To sum it up: carry all you can carry and switch to sets that apply to your current situation

I typically stay, in pve, with hammer and mace/focus but sometimes will switch out my mace for a sword to use as a gap closer and blinder when they are able to get back up from being launched like a ragdoll XD

Nice! "Launched like a ragdoll" haha I loved running with sword/torch when leveling up because of that gap closer! I still carry around a sword... just haven't used it as much as GS/Hammer/scepter lately. So many options!

range weapons as listed on skills: Scepter Orb of Wrath 1200 Smite 1200 Chains of Light 900
the available offhand ranges are Focus Ray of Judgment: 1200 Torch Zelot's Fire 1200 Cleansing Flame 400 Shield Shield of Judgment 600 Shield of Absorption (KB dist max) 320
Staff Wave of Light 600 Orb of Light 1200 Symbol of Swiftness 1200 Empower 600 Line of Warding 1200
Staff is my run buff. The AoE is nice and Line of Warding is excellent CC in a choke point, but I end up relying on the offhands, expecting them to be there. its personal prefference, but I've found the scepter be be more suited to well rounded builds and soloing. Staff is good in a group.
