Just wanted to let you guys know that I won't be able to be on much for a week or two. Found out last night that I need to buy a new modem My internet hasn't been working for the past couple days so I called the cable company to see if they could send it a signal or something. Tech guy said everything looked good but I still was getting the yellow triangle over my signal. Kill some baddies and get some loot for me!

Awe, dang, man. Sorry about that. Verizon accidentally disconnected our service for about four days not too long ago. Even 4 days without the web sucked. Nerds get accustomed to a very specific and plugged in lifestyle. When you get back we'll run some dungeons ;D

Ok so I wanted to apologize to the people I was in the group with about ready to do AC when I DCed. I seem to have lost my internet again but I think I have found the reason. My wife sells for a company called scentsy and she has online parties. It seems that there are unseen forces that dont want her to close her parties because when she goes to close them, the internet crashes. So we will have to see what happens on monday after it's closed.

Woah, that's super sketchy, Butch. I hope you get to the bottom of things if people are really purposefully making it difficult for your wife to close her selling parties. Don't worry about the AC run. Rain check

Sorry to hear about that, no problem with the AC run btw, Vecuu mentioned that you were having problems like that. Hopefully the issue gets resolved, I know how annoying internet problems can be.

Computer problems are never fun to run into :S It probably would not hurt to try and run a virus scan on the computer and more specifically the program that she uses for the parties *unless it is just through the interwebz* If it by chance happens again, you may be able to search google for key words or error messages if one should pop up. Plus if it can help I would be happy to try and help any way i can.

Thanks for the advice Shira. I probably should do a scan, think it's been a while since I've done one. For her business she just uses the internet. There's not a message that comes up other than the yellow triangle over the network signal strength. When you click on the bars to select the network, it says it's connected but with no internet access. This happened last week too and cleared up when I started my weekend. Must be the internet gods trying to tell me I need sleep during the work week instead of playing GW :-( We've called the cable company, reset our modem and router and nothing seems to work. Our lives revolve around Murphy's Law which is why I said her parties coming to an end caused the internet to crash. Just one of those things I guess, but I will definitely let you know if there's anything you can do to help. Thanks again.

Do you have a splitter on the cable line coming in, that splits it for tv and internet modem? When those start to go bad it can cause connection issues.
Sounds like you're both using wireless, have you tried it while hard wired to the router? Could be the wireless chip in the router getting ready to take a crap as well, which is more likely since the cable company can see the modem and say its fine. If possible run a hard line so you can rule out the wireless on the router and any wireless cards/adapters on the computers right off the bat. It will save a lot of time and help pinpoint where it's messing up. If it still messes up connected to the router, then try connected directly to the modem. Once it works without issues, just add the next part of the chain till you have problems again to kinda verify the problem. Fix that part and continue till you have everything hooked back up working without any connection issues.
Also what kind of interface does her meeting software use? Check to make sure her flash, java, etc. is up to date. Could just be bad coding that causes a hung connection when she closes out. The modem/router will hang till it either self resets or is power cycled manually to reset the connection.
Good luck finding your gremlins, just another reason I hate using wireless and only use it as a last resort. It can be so touchy at times.

Yes we have a splitter for the cable. Never thought to check to see if it's bad because the cable was tight. I've connected my computer directly to the modem, bypassing the router completely by using the ethernet cord and it still didn't work. I wondered if it was a bad modem for that reason but I don't know how to check if it's bad because all the lights are green and flashing/constant as they should be. Not sure what kind of interface she uses, she just connects to the website and goes. She doesn't use any specific sofware. I should have her check for updates though. Thanks to everybody for trying to help me figure out this problem. Gnomes.....Y U No let me play GW!?

Sorry that you are having problems with your internet and hoping you find a fix soon.
I agree with Sabre on wireless connections. I have wireless but I don't use wireless for my computer. The iPads and other mobile devices are for the wireless.
Couple of questions:
1. What, if any, non-Windows firewall or security suite do you have on that computer? 2. Have you tried repairing/troubleshooting through Start>Control Panel>Network Connections?

I have no idea what is on the computer because she is using her laptop and I have my own. I don't think she's tried doign a repair/troubleshoot.

Ok so I tried taking the splitter out of the equation and that seemed to work. It's amazing how the small things can make a difference. Saved me from having to spend $80 on a new modem :-o I appreciate all the advice everybody gave. Time for some Halloween stuff!!
